The Hobbit is finally greenlit with Peter Jackson directing
The Wrap is reporting that both The Hobbit and The Hobbit Sequel have been officially greenlit.
Production is set to start in February, with Peter Jackson directing, producing and writing both movies. It was said that Ian McKellen has been on hold for the movie for months now and the site fueled the speculation that Martin Freeman will portray Bilbo Baggins.
The Wrap’s report indicates that $30 million has already been spent on the two movies, which will shoot back-to-back with a $400 million budget. Earlier reports have put the budget as high as $500 million for both prequels.
It seems that the New Zealand labor dispute circling the movie has still not been resolved at this time, although the Screen Actors Guild are still in negotiations to resolve the dispute, which centers on SAG actors working in New Zealand, where they will likely shoot the movies.

Μάλιστα, βλέπω και κάποιες επανεμφανίσεις προσώπων απο τον Άρχοντα…
Αν δεν κάνω λάθος η ταινία θα είναι σε 2 μέρη, οπότε μάλλον αυτό θα εννοεί. Εννοείτε θέλουμε να δούμε γνώριμα πρόσωπα, πιστεύω ότι θα δώσει επιπλέον θετικές εντυπώσεις.
Τα έχουν ξαναπει για το The Hobbit Sequel δεν θα είναι το βιβλίο σε 2 μέρη… απλά θα υπάρχει η ιστορία που γεφυρώνει τα γεγονότα του Hobbit με αυτά του Άρχοντα που ακολούθησαν αμέσως μετά. Το υλικό για αυτή την ταινία θα το πάρουν και παλι απο τα γραπτά του Τοκλιν που υπάρχουν διάσπαρτα στο history of middle earth και σε εμας ήρθε ενα μικρο τμημα του μονο ως ατελειωτες ιστορίες.
Αυτό ήταν το αρχικό σενάριο… μετά μαζί με τον Del Toro το δουλέψαν και έκαναν ένα σενάριο. Ίσως το μερικά πραγματα προς το τέλος να τα πάνε στην 2η ταινια αλλά ο βασικος κορμός θα είναι η συνδεση με Αρχοντα.

Να… αλλα not anymore… μας τελειωσε ο del toro αφού οι συνεχείς καθυστερήσεις τον ανάγκασαν να αποχωρήσει απο την σκηνοθεσία τελικα για να αναλάβει άλλα project δικα του (mountains of madness anyone? ). Πάντως το ονομα του λογικα θα υπαρχει στα credit της ταινίας αφού εργάστηκε στην προπαραγωγή.

Σίγουρα αλλά το θεωρώ αχρείαστο. Αυτοί που πρέπει να μείνουν οι ίδιοι είναι τα Ξωτικά και οι Μάγοι που στην ουσία η ηλικία τους παίζει ελάχιστο ρόλο. Οπότε ναι για μένα θα πρέπει να είναι οι ίδιοι!
Edit: Μάθαμε και για τον ηθοποιό ο οποίος θα ενσαρκώσει τον Bilbo στις 2 ταινίες. Και το όνομα αυτού Martin Freeman
Hobbit Director Peter Jackson has just announced Martin Freeman will be playing the lead role of Bilbo Baggins in the two movies.
?Despite the various rumours and speculation surrounding this role, there has only ever been one Bilbo Baggins for us,? PJ said in a statement.
?There are few times in your career when you come across an actor who you know was born to play a role, but that was the case as soon as I met Martin. He is intelligent, funny, surprising and brave ? exactly like Bilbo and I feel incredibly proud to be able to announce that he is our Hobbit.?
It was initially thought Freeman had missed the part of a life time because of committments to the TV show Sherlock but because of delays to the start of shooting on The Hobbit, he has now been able to take the part.
Other actors that have just been confirmed as joining the cast are Robert Kazinksy, Richard Armitage and Aidan Turner. They join Andy Serkis and Sir Ian McKellen who were confirmed what seems and probably was years ago now.
Filming on The Hobbit movies starts in Feb next year although its still not sure where. There are rumors in the UK that Warner Bros want it shot in their huge studio plot left vacant in England now that the Harry Potter movies have finished.
