BURST Completes Work On ‘Lazarus Bird’
Sweden’s BURST recently entered Studio Bohussound (STATUS QUO, ABBA) in Kungalv, Sweden to record its new full-length album, “Lazarus Bird”. The follow-up to 2005’s “Origo” was once again recorded with engineer Fredrik Reinedahl (OPETH, IN FLAMES, GADGET). Songtitles set to appear on the CD include “I Hold Vertigo”, “We Are Dust”, “Momentum”, “Nineteenhundred”, “Cripple God”, “We Watched The Silver Rain” and “I Exterminate The I”. A fall release via Relapse Records is expected.
Commented the band: "We’re finished. Guess that’s the big news. ‘Lazarus Bird’, our coming album, is recorded, mixed and mastered, and good grief, it took its toll to make. Expect an album that will NOT be ‘Origo Part 2’, but something new for BURST.
“Right now we’re tinkering with the design and the cover (think art deco), all new pictures, and all that which goes into making a homogenic, thematic ALBUM as opposed to fragmented downloads. Praise the Internet, but long live the album!”

ANATHEMA Completes Work On Semi-Acoustic Album
UK atmospheric rock band ANATHEMA has issued the following update:
"ANATHEMA are very pleased to announce that the ‘Hindsight’ album hasbeen finished and the masters have been sent to the record company. As you may be aware, ‘Hindsight’ is a semi-acoustic album of classic ANATHEMA tracks, and includes one new song.
"Work on the new ANATHEMA album ‘Horizons’ is already well underway. We expect this to be our greatest album by a long, long way.
“In other news, Danny Cavanagh [of ANATHEMA] will be touring Norway and Sweden with Anneke Van Giersbergen, former singer of THE GATHERING and now with AGUA DE ANNIQUE. Expect some special performances together. Not to be missed!”
Danny Cavanagh / Anneke Van Giersbergen tour dates:
June 12 - Glassheim, Jevnaker, Norway
June 13 - Ravnedalen, Kristiansand, Norway
June 14 - Blue Garden, Trondheim, Norway
June 15 - Buckleys, Oslo, Norway
June 16 - Klubb Garage, Marsta/Stockholm, Sweden
In other news, ANATHEMA has posted the following message on its official web site:
"It has been brought to our attention that the SPHERICAL MINDS album ‘Fern’ is being passed around the Internet as ANATHEMA new material.
"The only anathema new material we have released online are the three songs you can find on this site and on our MySpace page.
“Any supposed ‘demo’ of any other song is probably Danny Cavanagh doing guest vocals on the SPHERICAL MINDS album. So just to let you know, if you think you are listening to ‘Lightning Song’ or ‘Bricks’… you are not.”
Swedish powerhouse GRAND MAGUS, which features in its ranks current SPIRITUAL BEGGARS frontman Janne Christoffersson, will release its fourth full-length album, “Iron Will”, in Europe on June 9 via Rise Above Records. The CD, which was once again recorded in Stockholm, with Oneman acting as engineer and co-producer, will be issued in the U.S. on June 24 through Candlelight.

Finnish doom metallers SWALLOW THE SUN have finished recording their next EP called “Plague of Butterflies” for a September release via Spinefarm Records.
Commented the band: "‘Plague of Butterflies’ is a story about an old hermit, deep woods, loneliness and the plague. It’s one song in three parts and holds about 35 minutes of crushing gloom, beauty and despair. Music was originally ordered from us for a really interesting and big project, but the project was sadly abandoned. Because of this we are planning to use the music in different context — namely in a short movie - and we are in search for suitable partners to make this happen. We’ll give more info on this later as things move on and wheels start to roll.’
“Plague of Butterflies” track listing:
- Losing the Sunsets
- Plague of Butterflies
- Evael 10:00
The album also includes the rare “Out of This Gloomy Light” demo. There were only three demos sent out, so this is really rare stuff and holds some of the darkest and coldest moments ever recorded by SWALLOW THE SUN.
“Out of This Gloomy Light” demo track listing:
- Through Her Silvery Body
- Out of This Gloomy Light
- Under the Waves
- Swallow (Horror Pt. 1)

Former HELLOWEEN Singer KISKE: ‘I Simply Don’t Fit Among MICHAEL WEIKATH’s People’
Former HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske was recently interviewed by members of AVANTASIA’s fan club Promised Land about his contibutions to EDGUY singer Tobias Sammet’s project, his solo career and his hobbies. One of the more revealing points of discussion is Michael’s revelation that he may go on tour again next year, 15 years after he last stepped on the stage. An excerpt from the chat follows.
Promised Land: In May your new solo career album [“Past In Different Ways”] was released [featuring acoustic and stripped down reworked versions of some of HELLOWEEN’s classics]. How did you feel recording HELLOWEEN’s songs? Did you miss (at least a bit) that time?
Michael Kiske: “I had big doubts in the first moment, but I am very happy that I did it and made those songs mine again. It was very important. I miss the first three years with Kai Hansen; that’s, I personally think, when we were functioning as a band. The last four years were a nightmare for me because of Mr. Weikath’s [Michael Weikath, guitar] mobbing. After Kai’s leaving, nothing worked anymore. The chemistry was destroyed. I am sure HELLOWEEN function much better now. I simply don’t fit among Weikath’s people.”
Promised Land: Have you ever considered going on tour with your solo career playing only the songs you recorded after leaving HELLOWEEN? Don’t you miss the sensation you feel when you are on the stage? It’s another question that I guess people ask you all the time
Michael Kiske: “I will do that again; I have to because you never reach new audiences without it. Maybe next year.”
