On Saturday, August 23rd, QUEENSRŸCHE will be invading the White River Amphitheater - 35 miles southeast of Seattle - for what will be their first ever symphonic concert as part of local rock station KISW-FM’s “Pain In The Grass” Music Festival.
It stands to reason that the band would be not only doing this near their hometown but for the station, itself, as KISW-FM helped propel the band to success just over two decades ago.
20 years and 20 million albums later, Queensrÿche - Geoff Tate, Scott Rockenfield, Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson and Mike Stone - join forces again with the station to do something they’ve never done before… a one-time exclusive symphonic concert for their hometown fans.
Although it’s yet to be determined, the selection of songs is expected to include hits and rarities from their vast catalog, including some of their collaborations with the late legendary composer, arranger and conductor Michael Kamen, who collaborated with such rock bands as PINK FLOYD, AEROSMITH and METALLICA among others in addition to Queensrÿche.
Rumor has it that the band will be hunkering down with renowned orchestral arranger/producer David Van DePitt (Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On/Motown) on new orchestration on exclusive songs for this one-time event.
The Rÿche should be in fine form as they will be returning from their summer long European/UK tour which began in late May.
Former THE CROWN Guitarist On New Project: Don’t Call It A Reunion
Four former members of the now-defunct Swedish death/thrash act THE CROWN have reunited in a brand new project which is currently working on its debut album. Magnus Olsfelt (bass), Marko Tervonen (guitar), Marcus Sunesson (lead guitar) and Janne Saarenpää (drums) have joined forces with an as-yet-undisclosed singer and are recording a collection of tunes which are being described as “pure death/thrash metal.”
Commented Tervonen in a statement: “Well, this can’t really be considered a THE CROWN reunion, because Johan [Lindstand; former THE CROWN vocalist] is not singing with us. But it is true that we are working on a death/thrash metal album. We just have guitar solos and vocals left to record. A total of 11 songs are being laid down ? and they sound as you would expect from THE CROWN: like a mixture of ‘Deathrace King’ [2000] and ‘Possessed 13’ [2003] plus a few new ideas. As far as the singer is concerned, we will announce his identity soon ? as well as the name of the band.”
Greek progressive act WASTEFALL has announced its decision to disband. The group’s official statement on the matter reads as follows:
"The band’s situation has not been really good the past few months, since Alexander [Katsiyiannis; guitar] was studying in Crete (island of Greece) far away from Athens. We did renew our contract with Intromental Management this year and after this we have had the opportunity to play at ProgPower Scandinavia in October 2008. Our drummer Kostis [Papaleksopoulos] passed his examinations and he will have to leave Greece this summer for a few years, since he will study in a musical university in England, so we found a professional session drummer to help us for this live show. Also Domenik [Papaemmanouil; vocals, guitars, keyboards] has moved to Germany since 2007 and although he was doing all he could, it was not easy for us to handle our obligations. The band was spread out and it was difficult for all of us to organize our priorities in any way required. We were also in a very difficult economic situation and it was then that Alexander decided to leave WASTEFALL.
"The beginning and vision of WASTEFALL was an idea of Alexander and Domenik and since Alexander wasn’t available anymore the band’s ‘core’ was broken. After this, nothing will be the same so we made the difficult decision and we are really sad to announce the end of WASTEFALL.
"At first, we would like to say a big thanks and a lot of apologies to Hercules Loukakis for his time, honesty and will to help us out with the ‘ProgPower live show’ and also thank our former members, Ken Golden from our record label Sensory and Olivier Garnier from our French record label/promotion Replica, Claus Jensen and Lars Larsen from our official management, George Karamanos, Nikos Sigklidis and Vicky Michalitsi (Si-lia) for being our personal local management/advertisers, all our friends, our families for supporting us, the local and international magazines, webzines, forums, and finally our fans in all over the world and all those who did believe in WASTEFALL’s dream and supported us all these years.
“The band’s website, forum, e-mails and web administration, such as any WASTEFALL profiles all over the internet, for at least some years will be administrated by Christos Kyrkilis in cooperation with any other WASTEFALL member neeeded.”
WASTEFALL guitarist Alex Katsiyiannis has issued the following separate statement regarding his decision to leave the group:
“Due to various complicated reasons and my personal choice to follow my academic studies, I can no longer be a WASTEFALL member. I want to thank all my bandmates, fans, Claus and Lars from Intromental, Ken at Sensory and Olivier at Replica for all the great times. Concerning music, all I have to say is that I’m going to continue writing music, in a very different style though, and not with the perspective of releasing something soon. It was a great journey I will always remember. I hope that other bands will be influenced by our passion so far and mark their way in the ‘rotten’ music business. Dom, Chris, Nick, Kostis: Love, respect, good luck and apologies.”
WASTEFALL’s third album, “Self Exile”, was released in 2006 via Sensory Records. The CD was mixed and mastered by Tommy Hansen (HELLOWEEN, TNT, JORN LANDE etc.) at Jailhouse Studios in Denmark.
A track has surfaced online featuring a dubious-sounding collaboration between The Streets and Muse.
‘Who Knows Who’ is thought to appear on The Streets forthcoming album ‘Everything Is Borrowed’, due for the fall of this year. It’s a predictably audacious affair, and doesn’t feature any high-pitched vocals courtesy of Matt Bellamy.
The collaboration is thought to have occurred after The Streets supported Muse last year during their gigantic Wembley Stadium dates.
Mike Skinner and Dorset’s finest are well-known to be musical buddies outside of recording duty.
The Streets have just recently announced a tour which will check-in at several UK venues over October.
Yeah!
το εν λογω κομματι δεν το βρισκω εγω παντως… if anyone could help
SEPULTURA have revealed the title of their forthcoming album will be A-LEX, which is Russian for “no law”. According to the band the album “features 18 songs in 60 minutes total playtime and it’s a milestone in Sepultura’s career. It’s the first album recorded with drummer Jean Dolabella and it sounds different from any other work from Sepultura.”
The tracklist is as follows: A-LEX I: ‘Moloko Mesto’, ‘Filthy Rot’, ‘We’ve Lost You’, ‘What I Do!’, A-LEX II: ‘The Treatment’, ‘Metamorphosis’, ‘Sadistic Values’, ‘Forceful Behavior’, ‘Conform’, A-LEX III: ‘The Experiment’, ‘Strike’, ‘Enough Said’, ‘Ludwig Van’, A-LEX IV: ‘Paradox’.
The album is slated for a November 2008 release. More details will be revealed soon.
Jeff Martin is nearly done working on his second solo studio album.
The new songs were recorded in his studio in Ireland. Jeff played all guitars, bass and keyboards while Wayne P. Sheehy took care of the drums and percussion.
Although a tracklisting hasn’t been revealed so far, song titles that are expected to be featured are ‘Morroco’, ‘Going Down Blues’ and ‘A Line In The Sand’.
Rumour has it that the album coalesces middle eastern influences, blues and dark moody-sounding songs, which are reminiscent of songs from The Tea Party’s '97 era release, Transmission.
No release date has been decided upon yet, but the album should be out late summer/early fall 2008, followed by a world-wide tour.
