Just got home from the best show I’ve every been to. I’m 42 and I’ve been to tons of shows (never saw Queen, Zep, Dio-era Sabbath, The Doors, or Bon Scott-era AC/DC, though).
No Ear in the Wall and no Lonely is the Word.
BUT - a flawless concert - I could hear every note Ronnie sang, every riff Tony played and Geezer’s bass was as smooth and clear as that excerpt from Die Young that Joe posted a few weeks ago on the Latest News section.
Ronnie has limitless range, the band was enjoying themselves and each other and the practically sold out crowd was totally into it. The general admission floor was packed and only some of the very high seats were empty.
The songs were phenomenal! The cemetery scenes that projected on the church ‘stained glass’ screens along with the shadows of several hooded figures during Heaven & Hell as well as the backdrop of a universe filled with stars, rainfall during children of the sea, and flames in hell and (yes!) an eye staring out of the wall during the song ‘I’, and finally the mob rules, live evil, H&H album art were wonderful accents to a stage show that had great light programs and even flame colored smoke.
I believe Ronnie was born in 1942 and that makes him 65 and I just cannot believe how powerful and crystal clear that voice has remained.
Tony remains a Professor and was soloing like a madman during each song and Geezer was solid as ever. The thing about Sabbath is that unlike most metal, these guys have rhythm so all the hot girls at the show (I was with two of them) could dance and get into Geezer’s & Tony’s rhythmic grooves.
My personal highlights:
- Sign of the southern cross - a mind-blowing rendition!
- When Ronnie leaves the musical trio (Vinnie, Tony & Geezer) for about 7 minutes during H&H and they are all just playing off each other and soloing you really can feel the power and musicianship of this band. They remain untouchable.
Some tips re: merchandise - the official T-shirts are quite expensive and the reproduction of the album cover art is too grainy and overall poor - the best shirt in my opinion is the one that is not from an album cover but shows the fallen angel next to the words Heaven & Hell - the real treat is on the back of this shirt where the quote “the world is full of kings & queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams” appears; all of the official shirts with album cover art do not have the name Black Sabbath on them, but if you wait until after the show you can get great T-shirts with the Heaven & Hell album cover art that has the words Black Sabbath on it for only $10 (as opposed to $30-$35 for the official ones which as I mentioned have poor reproduction of the art) - hopefully the Sabs are not upset with me for giving you this tip, I mean, after all, I did pay $30 for one of the official ones (see above). The other cool thing is the metal guitar pick that sells for $15 and has the words Heaven & Hell in cool script engraved on the front and Tony’s and Geezer’s signature engraved on the back - it comes with a chain to wear around your neck. It’s a really unique sovenier (?spelling) and I’m wearing mine right now!
One final point - if you look at old photographs of this band in concert along with the cover for the Live at Hammersmith CD you can see how much symmetry there is in their stage presence - with Tony being a left handed player and standing to Ronnie’s left and Geezer being right-handed and standing to Ronnie’s right, they really frame the band with each of their axes pointing directly at Ronnie who is basically caught in their ‘guitar spotlights’.
Unbelieveable experience. And, by the way, I’ve decided that from today onwards I’m not referring to this band by any name other than BLACK SABBATH!!!

Μην πας τόσο μακρυά, η Βουλγαρία δίπλα είναι, ιδίως για μας τους Βόρειους. 28-29 Ιουνίου έχει Festival στην Καβάρνα με headliners H&H και Motorhead αντίστοιχα… Τα έξοδα που θα κάνεις για να μείνεις εκεί είναι μάλλον αστεία και είσαι και κοντά στην θάλασσα…
…α ναι, έχει και εισιτήριο (αν σου περισσεύουν) 30 ευρώ. Τι? όχι βρε κουτέ και οι δύο μέρες μαζί!!! #-o Εκτός αν θέλεις να πας στον Glenn Hudges, στους Europe, στον Gary Moore ή στους Gamma Ray, οπότε δεν χρειάζεται εισιτήριο.#-o Τώρα αν επιμένεις να δεις και Maiden, θα πρέπει να βάλεις βαθιά το χέρι στην τσέπη και να βγάλεις ένα 10ευρω!!!#-o

Σημείωση : Στο φεστιβάλ θα έχει και support της προκοπής, όχι Stonesour και Cornell…
Πάντως για τη Βουλγαρία που λέτε ότι έχει 30 Ευρώ κτλ να ξέρετε ότι περιμένουν καμιά 30.000 κόσμο και όχι 10.000 όπως εδώ.
Αν είχαν φθηνότερο εισητήριο θα μπορούσαν και εδώ να περιμένουν πολύ περισσότερο κόσμο…
Δηλαδή τους τριπλάσιους… Δηλαδή εδώ που είμαστε υποτριπλάσιοι έπρεπε να έχει 30 Χ 3 = 90 και όχι 140. Βασικά δεν υπάρχει σύγκριση, γιατί εκεί συγχρηματοδοτούν Κοινότητα και ιδιωτικές εταιρίες για προώθηση μάλλον της πόλης και διαφήμιση της εταιρίας αντίστοιχα (ιδίως στην Καβάρνα), οπότε η μάχη είναι άνιση. Δηλαδή εάν έλεγε εδώ πχ μία Vodafone να διαφημιστεί μέσω συναυλίας, 200 και 300 χιλιάδες είναι ψιλά, αν είναι όλη η Αθήνα να έχει αφίσες VODAFONE festival --> Heaven & Hell - Dream Theater κλπ., αλλά βέβαια αυτά τα κόλπα είναι για τις προηγμένες χώρες…
Στο θέμα μας, λες δλδ να μην την προτιμήσουμε την Βουλγαρία και δει την Σόφια που από Θεσσαλονίκη το εισιτήριο είναι όσο κ για την Αθήνα? (και ξέρεις κ τι άλλα καλά έχει, έτσι? )
…επίσης δεν μπορώ να καταλάβω πόσα χρήματα παίρνουν οι μπάντες στην Βουλγαρία. Δε νομίζω κάθε συναυλία να έχει 30.000 κόσμο… Εξάλλου τα 15-20 ευρώ δεν είναι καθόλου λίγα για έναν Βούλγαρο… Παίρνουν λοιπόν εκεί λιγότερα ή κερδίζουν εδώ πολύ περισσότερα. Στους Sabbath πρόπερσυ πόσοι να ήταν στην Βουλγαρία? 60.000 ? Ε, του π#$@%!!!
Κοίτα, σκέψου πως οι Deep Purple στην Καβάρνα πρόπερσι είχαν μόνοι τους 30.000 λαό!!! Οπότε οι διοργανωτές κερδίζουν από αυτό όπως και από αυτό που πολύ σωστά επισήμανες: Υποστήριξη από ολόκληρη την πόλη και βαρβάτοι χορηγοί.
Να σου πω την αλήθεια δεν ξέρω που θα είναι καλύτερα, όμως είμαι απόλυτα σίγουρος για το ότι θα έχει πολύ παραπάνω κόσμο πάνω (με ό,τι καλό αλλά και ό,τι κακό συνεπάγεται αυτό.).
Βέβαια αυτό τα “καλά” της Βουλγαρίας εδώ δεν υπάρχουν :lol: , οπότε… it’s up to you!

Το θέμα δεν είναι οι συναυλίες. Όλοι έρχονται στην Ελλάδα πλέον. Το θέμα είναι τα εισιτήρια… Όταν Gary Moore, Glenn Hughes, Europe και Gamma Ray παίζουν ΤΖΑΜΠΑ δε νομίζω ότι μπορεί να περάσει απαρατήρητο…[-X

εδω πριν μια εβδομαδα επαιξαν οι blackmore’s night βουλγαρια και ειχε sold out 4.000 κοσμο…που παιζουν full αντιεμπορικη μουσικη…
και εδω 4.000 κοσμο μαζευουν πρωτοκλασσατα ονοματα του rock στα ντουζενια τους…
