Canadian metal pioneers VOIVOD have issued the following update:
"We are putting finishing touches on the yet-to-be-named new [VOIVOD] record, due this spring. Jason Newsted [a.k.a. Jasonic; ex-METALLICA, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM] ended up playing on all the bass tracks and plans to have Eric [Forrest; former VOIVOD bassist/vocalist] and Blacky [real name: Jean-Yves Theriault; original VOIVOD bassist] also play on it were put aside for another project down the road.
This album will mark the end of the VOIVOD songs Piggy [late VOIVOD guitarist Denis ‘Piggy’ D’Amour, who died in August 2005 from colon cancer] wrote and performed. There are other songs from Piggy yet to be released, that he wrote for himself and other projects. "We will release a DVD of our first-ever performance in Japan, featuring all early VOIVOD material with Blacky on bass and Dan Mongrain [MARTYR] on guitar. "We would like to extend our condolences to the family of Adrian Bromley, who was up until recently VOIVOD’s publicist at The End Records for the past four years. His enthusiasm and knowledge of music and all things metal will be sorely missed. “More news and artwork to be posted soon.”

Sweden’s THE QUILL has issued the following update:
“THE QUILL are ? even though it might not look like it ? still around. It’s true, the last year or so nothing much have happened that could be noticed on the outside, and yes, we’ve been through a sort of hibernation. But we haven’t gave up on the idea of producing a new album and do at least on or two more extensive tours. What’s happening right now is that we’re recording new songs with new arrangements. That’s all that I can say for the time being. I don’t mean to be overly secretive, but bear with me; soon there will hopefully come some really serious news about this band that we, the members, love and treasure, and that has so many faithful fans out there. So… be cool and look out for us. We miss you all very much.”
THE QUILL in December 2006 recorded a three-song demo in Blomstermåla, Sweden. The tracks “Saved”, “Suicide” and “Blow Me (Off The Ground)” were used by the band to try and procure a record deal following THE QUILL’s split with SPV.
THE QUILL’s fifth album, “In Triumph”, was released in April 2006 via SPV/Steamhammer. The CD was recorded at Area 51 studios in Celle, Germany with producer Tommy Newton (VICTORY, UFO, HELLOWEEN). The group’s video for the song “Broken Man” can be viewed below.
THE QUILL in 2005 announced the addition of bassist Robert Triches to the group’s ranks. Triches joined THE QUILL as the replacement for Roger Nilsson (ex-SPIRITUAL BEGGARS, FIREBIRD), who left the band in May 2005 after almost 12 years and four albums.

In other news, our LIVE DVD is still in the editing process. We will not make our end of February release like we hoped but we will update you with a firm date once the editing is done. In fact, Myles himself will be heading to New York City early next week to see how things are progressing. After that, Myles will catch a plane to Orlando to have a good solid week and a half of writing Alter Bridge III (working title) with Mark until they leave for Texas.

Ένα πολύ ενδιαφέρον νέο για τους Shadow Gallery. Ίσως στον δίσκο που ετοιμάζουν να τραγουδήσει o D.C. Cooper.
Guitarist Gary Wehrkamp of progressive power metallers SHADOW GALLERY has confirmed to Roadie Crew’s Thiago Sarkis that the band will carry on following singer Michael A. Baker’s recent passing, with D.C. Cooper (SILENT FORCE, ex-ROYAL HUNT) filling in on at least one track on the band’s upcoming album, which is tentatively due in October.
“Mike was very excited about the new SHADOW GALLERY songs compositions and was eager to sing them,” Wehrkamp said in a statement that was published at Solada. “Unfortunately, he left us before he could begin. There is a possibility that he did a quick demo of one song a few weeks before he died. As for the rest of the material, we will have to find a way to honor Mike, and his legacy, and we feel the best choice is to continue and finish this album. We will try to make it as good as it can possibly be. We have looked at some singers to fill in. I say that because you cannot replace somebody like Mike. With a few people in mind, [but] nothing is definite or confirmed. There has been some talk that D.C. Cooper would be our new singer. We have known D.C. for many years, and enjoyed working with him on a few different records. He is a unique talent and a fine singer. Our plan is to have D.C.'s voice grace one track of our new album, for a song that has not been completely written yet. It is possible that we may even collaborate — something we never do — with him on this song. We hope to be finishing our record in a few months, which puts a possible release for October. We sincerely appreciate all of the wonderful comments left for Mike, from wonderful caring people all around the globe. We look forward to giving you all the very best we can.”

Οι Pelican υπέγραψαν στην Southern Lord (ήταν στην Hydra Head) και ετοιμάζουν ep μέχρι το καλοκαίρι και καινούριο album με guest κιθαρίστα που τους έχει επηρεάσει σημαντικά όπως λένε οι ίδιοι.
