As of Monday the 26th (March), Cradle’s as-yet-untitled new album was royally begun at Andy Sneap’s Backstage studio (re-christened ‘Sneapy Hollow’ for posterity), with two drum tracks being completed in the first session alone. The entire recording period will run through till the end of May with tracks being committed to the proverbial asylum. The album itself will be made up of 13 of these tracks (always a nice, diabolic round number to play with) with yet another ‘theme’ or ‘concept’ running the entire length of the affair.
This time (and to commemorate ten years since 'Cruelty And The Beast’s infatuation with Elizabeth Bathory), the story concerns itself with yet another brutal historical serial killer, the fallen General, Satanist and Child-Killer, Gilles De Rais, one-time Marshall of France and champion of Joan Of Arc.
Dani, in a gallant display of burps and snot-bubbles, commented recently that… ‘this is a far more cohesive story, crammed full of everything that has made Cradle vampyrically endearing over the last few centuries or two. The tale itself, loosely spat about actual historical fact, is heaving with pitch black gothic horror of the darkest calibre. It’s a sick and twisted slay-ride through the annals of Satanic history, stinking of blood and money and semen. In short it’s the ultimate Cradle venture when coupled with the return-to-speed glory of our former meisterworks. I really can’t wait for people to hear these songs - the last time we rehearsed them they almost brought about a second Ice Age, they were that intense!’
Among the 13 offerings, the following titles will appear… ‘Shat Out Of Hell’, ‘The Death Of Love’, ‘The 13th Caesar’, ‘Tragic Kingdom’, ‘Sweetest Maleficia’, ‘Honey And Sulphur’, ‘Midnight shadows Crawl To Darken Counsel With Life’ and ‘Ten Leagues Beneath Contempt’ to maim but a few.
The album will also feature some surprise contributors, though more on these at a later date and from well outside a preordained blast radius.
Also in the news… the long-awaited ‘Gospel Of Filth’ is with the publishers (Fab Press) and is currently undergoing it’s fifth read-through. Once the layout starts to unfold with the hefty addition of photographs and other visual oddities, then these hallowed pages will be running monthly juicy excepts right up until it’s eventual release later this year. And don’t worry, it’s really going to be worth the wait!
Anyway, you’ll soon see what we mean…
Oh and keep your eyes peeled for other tour dates too, Cradle’s booking agent is about to reveal some more festivals for the Summer and a possible European tour towards the back end of the year, probably around Xmas time.
Until the moon hangs fat again…
