Manes is a band from Trondheim, Norway, which was formed in 1993. They started out as a two-piece band comprised of Sargatanas and Cernunnus (or Cern). They are currently signed to Candlelight Records, but were originally on Hammerheart Records and the Italian experimental lable Code666. The bands earlier works, up to and including Under Ein Blodraud Maane, are somewhat atypicical Norwegian black metal and are highly lauded by fan’s of the Genre. However as of Vilosophe the band has completely changed its sound to a hybrid of Jazz, Trip-hop, electronica and Metal with clean sung vocals and many progressive overtones. Inspite of being highly acclaimed by critics this subsequent change of direction has alienated most of their original fanbase.

Sorcery-Sinister Soldiers(1978 Century Records)

Acid Archives:

“Often described as an early metal/NWOBHM album, but in my ears closer in sound and mood to local early 1970s hardrock bands like Top Drawer. Inane teen lyrics and thankfully non-screaming vocals, with plenty of guitarwork that occasionally goes into Terry Brooks territory, plus some mellotron and a proto-1980s drummer. Despite some negative feedback I think it’s listenable all through, with a highpoint in moody long “Last goodbye” track. 2LP set in gatefold cover, although the total playtime barely exceeds 50 minutes. Apart from the reissues, there’s a counterfeit in circulation which can be recognized by a white rectangle obviously inserted into the original cover artwork.”

Metal-Archives.com:

“Very obscure band and their music was very similar to many of the NWOBHM bands but with a more psychedelic and doomier feel than the majority of them. Not to be confused with the other Sorcery from the US who released “Stunt Rock” and “2” and who were for the most part, purely a rock band. Not to be confused with the Black Metal band Sorcery from Rhode Island.”

FreakEmporium:

“Originally a double album, released in 1978, this is a hard rock gem by a very little known US band. Obviously influenced by the usual greats, Zeppelin, Sabbath and Hendrix, the CD positively drips with some of incendiary lead guitar work-outs.”

Eκπληκτικο… Eχω σε βινυλιο τους Sorcery . Πρεπει να το παρω κι αυτο σε cd.

Βrainticket-Cottonwood Hill(1971)

Reissue of one of the essential early 70s psychedelic freak-out albums, first issued by the Hallelujah label in Switzerland in 1971. Licensed to German Bellaphone soon thereafter, this is generally considered one of the peak Krautrock experiences, despite its Swiss origins. Bellaphone did a poor quality CD issue in 1989, and there was also a bootleg version on “Bellgro” – both of those are long o/p. This new CD, legitimately reissued by the original Swiss manufacturer – Phonag Records, offers improved sound & reproduces the fantastic swirl cover. At this point in time, Brainticket were made up of: Joel Vandroogenbroeck (organ, flute), Ron Bryer (guitar), Werni Frohlich (bass), Coismo Lampis (drums), Wolfgang Paap (tabla), Dawn Muir (voice) & Hellmuth Kolbe (potentiometers, generators and soundeffects). This is their first album (sometimes referred to as "self-titled) and is quite different and more radical than anything else in their discography. It features an outlandish churning groove of a sound (vaguely comparable to Can or Funkadelic at their most tweaked), is deeply immersed in LSD mythology and is littered with electronic effects and collage-like elements leading towards the cover’s warning: “Listen to the first recordings of this LSD/Hashish/Fixy/Jointy sound. Take a trip to your inner light. See the hallucinations of reality rise out of the groove. You’ve got your Brainticket now!”

Kaleidoscope-Tangerine dream(1967)

Kaleidoscope were an English psychedelic and progressive rock group that existed from 1967 to 1969. Having performed since 1964 under the name The Sidekicks, they became The Key in November 1965, before settling upon the name Kaleidoscope when they signed a deal with Fontana Records in January 1967. The group consisted of Peter Daltrey (vocals, keyboards), Eddy Pumer (guitars), Steve Clark (bass, flute), and Dan Bridgman (drums). While the group did not achieve commercial success in its time, it retains a loyal fanbase and its recordings are remembered in high regard.

The band released two albums, Tangerine Dream in 1967 and Faintly Blowing in 1969. As the group moved further into progressive rock, they renamed themselves yet again to Fairfield Parlour in 1969 and switched to the Vertigo label. The transformation saw no lineup changes. Under this name, they recorded and released From Home to Home in 1970. The last LP by the group was White Faced Lady, a rock opera recorded in 1971. It was shelved until 1991, when it was released under the band’s original name Kaleidoscope.

In the summer of 1993, Jeff Buckley began working on his first album with record producer Andy Wallace,[55] who had mixed Nirvana’s multi-platinum album Nevermind.[56] Buckley assembled a band, comprised of bassist Mick Grondahl and drummer Matt Johnson,[57] and spent several weeks rehearsing.[58] In September, the trio headed to Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, New York to spend 6 weeks recording basic tracks for what would become Grace.[59] Buckley invited ex-bandmate Lucas to play guitar on the songs “Grace” and “Mojo Pin”, and Woodstock-based jazz musician Karl Berger wrote and conducted string arrangements with Buckley assisting at times.[60] Buckley returned home for overdubbing at studios in Manhattan and New Jersey where he performed take after take to capture the perfect vocals and experimented with ideas for additional instruments and added textures to the songs.[61]

In January 1994, Buckley left to go on his first solo North American tour to support Live at Sin-é.[62] It was followed by a quick 10 day European tour in March.[63] Buckley played clubs and coffeehouses and made in-store appearances.[62] After returning, Buckley invited guitarist Michael Tighe to join the band.[64] Buckley co-wrote “So Real” with Tighe, recorded as a late addition to the album.[65] In June, Buckley began his first full band tour called the “Peyote Radio Theatre Tour” that lasted into August.[66] Pretender Chrissie Hynde,[67] Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, and The Edge from U2[68] were among the attendees of these early shows.

Grace was released on August 23, 1994. In addition to seven original songs, the album included three covers: “Lilac Wine”, based on Nina Simone’s version,[46] “Corpus Christi Carol”, a Benjamin Britten composition based on a 15th century hymn that Buckley was introduced to in high school,[69] and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, based on John Cale’s recording from the Cohen tribute album, I’m Your Fan.[46] Buckley’s rendition of “Hallelujah” has been called “Buckley’s best” and “one of the great songs”[70] by Time magazine and is included on Rolling Stone’s list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time”.[71]

While sales were slow and the album garnered little radio airplay, it did quickly receive critical acclaim.[72] The UK’s Melody Maker called it, “a massive, gorgeous record,”[73] while The Sydney Morning Herald proclaimed it, “almost impossibly beautiful.”[74] The album did go gold in France and Australia over the next two years,[66] eventually achieving gold status in the U.S. in 2002.[75] Grace has now sold over 2 million albums worldwide[76][77] and has gone platinum in Australia over six times

Grace won appreciation from a host of revered musicians. Included were members of Buckley’s biggest influence, Led Zeppelin.[78] Jimmy Page considered Grace close to being his, “favorite album of the decade.”[79] Robert Plant was also complimentary.[80] Other of Buckley’s influences[81] lauded him: Bob Dylan named Buckley “one of the great songwriters of this decade,”[80] David Bowie called Grace, “one of the 10 albums he’d bring with him to a desert island.”[82] Lou Reed expressed interest in working with him after seeing him perform.[82] Paul McCartney,[83] Thom Yorke, Chris Cornell, Neil Peart, U2 and Elton John were among others who have held Buckley’s work in high esteem.
